You do not need a ticket to fall for Peleș. The terraced gardens and wooded estate that surround the castle are open to all, and simply walking up to the great façade — past the stone terraces, the fountains and the statuary — is one of the loveliest free things to do in Sinaia. The formal Italian-style terraces set the castle off like a jewel in a case, and there is no better spot to take your first photograph of those famous turrets rising against the mountains.
Terraces, forest paths and mountain air
Beyond the manicured terraces, forested paths thread through the same royal estate that links Peleș with its neighbour, Pelișor. The mountain air, the tall firs and the Carpathian backdrop make for an easy, restorative stroll at any time of year — snow-hushed in winter, green and cool in summer, and quite spectacular in autumn, when the beech and larch turn the whole hillside to copper and gold.

A gentle word of practical advice: the paths are uneven and climb a little, so comfortable shoes are wise, and the mountain weather can change quickly even in summer.
